Creating a Distressed Farmhouse Style with a Paint Sprayer

The Wagner Home Decor sprayer takes this chunky piece of '70s furniture and gives it a distressed farmhouse style makeover.

Tools & Materials

Like any project, you will need the right tools and supplies to do the job right the first time. Because the sooner you finish the sooner you can get on with well, anything you want.

Preparation

Step 1 - Select a Piece

Select an old piece of furniture, door or cabinet from your current collection or find one at a garage sale or local flea market.

Step 2 - Remove Hardware

Remove hardware and prepare your surface by sanding, or dusting as needed.

Step 3 - Tape and/or Mask

Tape or mask any areas you don’t want painted.

Painting

Step 1 - Fill Your Paint Sprayer

Prepare your Home Décor sprayer and fill with a light or off white color of your choice.  Reference the included owner’s manual for complete details on setting up your sprayer.

Step 2 - Practice Spraying

Practice spraying on included spray poster or other scrap material.

Step 3 - Begin Spraying

Start by spraying the inside and other hard to reach areas.

(PRO TIP) Keep gun 4-6 inches away from your surface.

Step 4 - Continue Spraying

Continue spraying the rest of your project.

(PRO TIP) Spray in complete, full passes and overlap by 30%

Step 5 - Drying

Allow to dry and spray another coat as needed.  Let piece fully dry after each coat.

Step 6 - Create Distressed Look

To create the distressed look, use a sanding block or medium grit sandpaper and lightly sand corners and edges to remove the paint until you have your desired look.

Step 7 - Display

Reattach existing hardware or add new depending on the look you want to achieve.

Now your piece is ready to display.
